Educating your daughter

Education starts in the home, within the family. It continues as she joins a playgroup, school, college and perhaps university. Decisions, decisions...!!!

Is it possible to re-sit a module of an AS exam?

Q. My daughter has just received her AS results. Is it possible to re-sit only one module for a particular exam? Her French paper was split as follows:- component 1 (reading, writing & listening) & component 2 (oral). She achieved a grade A in component 1 but grade E in component 2. So her current overall grade is B. We are looking at a re-mark for the oral however if it remains at grade E then a re-take, if possible, would be the next step? The exam board is Edexcel. Many Thanks

A. AS levels are structured so that pupils can retake one of the two modules as long as the specification or chosen text, for example in a literature paper, does not change. If she is continuing on with the French to A2 her oral work should continue to improve and therefore whatever the outcome of the remark she should be able to raise her grade overall on re-sitting. I would hope that the Head of Department at her school or college could give her some more detailed advice.
Good luck!
