Educating your daughter

Her education begins at home and continues with playgroup, school, college and perhaps university. Decisions, decisions...

Top tips

  • Keep reading with her and to her. You should both enjoy this shared activity, you can speculate on how the characters might be feeling or make up different, sometimes ridiculous, endings!
  • Do label all of your daughter’s clothes & possessions clearly. Uniform is uniform, undies are very similar and children can get very distressed if they can’t find their socks or jumper
  • If you ask her “what did you do at school today?” She’ll probably say “play”. Which is as it should be. Children learn through play and the curriculum is designed to enable this. Counting, weighing, listening to and telling stories are the foundations of future learning.
  • School should be enjoyable. Try not to let any of your anxieties or negative past experiences spill out.
  • Good parenting is about enabling your child to become her own person which involves trying new things, taking risks, making mistakes. After all, how did she learn to walk except by falling over?
