Jill Berry

Qualifications: BA(Manchester) ; MEd (Liverpool)

Experience: Jill assumed the headship of Dame Alice Harpur School in Bedford in 2000, following five years as Deputy Head at Nottingham High School for Girls GDST. She was educated at a co-ed grammar school, which became a comprehensive during her time there, in South Yorkshire during the 70s. Jill holds an honours degree in English from Manchester University and went on to obtain a PGCE and later a Masters degree from Liverpool. She has taught in a variety of schools, maintained and independent, comprehensive and selective, all girls, all boys and co-ed, since 1980. Jill was President of the Girls’ Schools’ Association in 2009.

Summary

Jill has spent more than 30 years in the world of Education, and is an experienced teacher and school leader. When she assumed the role of head it was important to Jill that she also continued to teach in the classroom, so that she got to know every pupil in the school.

Since moving on from headship, Jill is completing a professional Doctorate in Education, working for the National College of School Leadership and carrying out a variety of educational consultancy roles.
