Nicola Botterill

Position: Headmistress

School: Bruton School for Girls

Qualifications: BSc (Hons), MA, PGCE, NPQH, FRGS, FRSA

Experience: Headmistress at Bruton School for Girls from September 2012, after 5 years as Deputy Head at St Mary’s Calne. Prior to this I started at Putney High School as Head of Geography and left 9 years later having held a variety of roles including Head of House, Director of Marketing, Director of Studies and finally Second Deputy. I started teaching Geography and ICT 21 years ago at a girls’ grammar school in Surrey and have also taught in state mixed comprehensive schools.

Summary

Teaching, and being taught in both girls’ schools and mixed comprehensives has given me the passion for girls’ education I have today. I spent a year travelling before taking up the post at Putney and this brought into sharp focus the need for global awareness and understanding at a time when technology is making the world a much smaller place. World events impact on us all and so I believe that equipping every girl with an excellent education as well as the robustness to make important decisions about her future is fundamental.
