Sarah Dixon

Position: Headmistress

School: Northampton High School GDST

Qualifications: BA (Hons) English and European Literature; PGCE; University of Warwick

Experience: Headmistress at Northampton High School since September 2007, after 8 years as Headmistress at another GSA school, Peterborough High School. Prior to Headship at Peterborough, I was a Head of Department and Head of Year 11 at Bedford School for 12 years, so I have extensive experience of single sex boys’ education as well as girls’. I started teaching at Stamford High School, where I was Head of Year 10 and learned the now outdated practice of timetabling with a pencil and paper. Throughout my career, I have taught English and make a point of getting to know each Year 7 girl by taking her through an exciting Reading programme.

Summary

I was educated at a GSA school in the North West, where my commitment to the value of girls’ education for girls took root: girls in GSA schools learn the confidence to overcome obstacles in their professional and personal lives and develop into successful and happy women.
My husband is the Chair of Science at the OCR Examinations Board, which gives me an insight into assessment at a national level, and I have two wonderful daughters, one now working in recruitment in London and the other at Leeds University so I understand the particularly challenging and rewarding task of raising “our daughters” in a fast-changing world.
