About girls' schools

From the many myths about independent girls' schools: hot-houses, bitchy girls, superior swots, man-hating... to all the positives: happy places where girls feel special, form life-long friendships and succeed. What's the truth?

Special learning provision in girls' schools

Even the most selective schools provide for a range of special learning needs from Dyslexia, Dyspraxia, Speech and Language difficulties and Attention Deficit Disorder to Gifted and Talented girls. This is because girls’ schools are expert in knowing how girls learn and how best to offer the right level of support or challenge.

Typically girls’ schools offer smaller teaching groups than many other schools and these smaller classes provide more opportunities for individual teaching and learning. Staff really get to know each girl as an individual and can adjust their teaching to suit your daughter’s needs.

Virtually all girls’ schools can provide specialist learning support teaching on an individual or small group basis for a range of learning difficulties and thus enable your daughter to succeed to the very best of her ability. Most also provide extension classes for the most able, either to extend girls’ knowledge and skills or to enable them to develop their independent, investigative learning and research skills.

Enthusiasm for learning is the key to developing your daughter’s confidence. In small classes taught by skilled and experienced practitioners she will flourish, whatever her ability level. In a girls’ only environment your daughter will be encouraged to take risks as she realises that she can learn just as much from her mistakes as from her successes.

Whatever her learning needs, it’s worth considering a girls’ school for your daughter. She will be treated as an individual with potential and given the appropriate support and challenge she needs as she blossoms into a confident and capable young woman.
