Why does my daughter get so stressed about friendships?
Q. My daughter gets very stressed about her friendships. What can I do to help her?
A. First your daughter has friends who want to be her friends, then they want to be someone else’s friend and then they want to be her friend again! Girls seem especially prone to experiment with firendships like this. When it happens it can be very stressful and painful because your daughter’s friendships are crucial to her self esteem and happiness.Sometimes it may be her who is making friends and then breaking up with them.
The best thing you can do for her is to encourage her to keep trying to make friends even if these friendships sometimes end painfully. She is learning about how to handle life’s problems and difficulties and the only way to stop feeling stressed is to keep on, and on, trying.
