Farnborough Hill is an independent Roman Catholic day school for 500 girls aged 11-18. It welcomes girls of all Christian denominations, other faiths or no faith who are supportive of the ethos.
Although selective, the school does not cream off an academic elite, but achieves much academic success through excellent teaching and pastoral support. The ISI inspection report (May 2008) confirms ‘the school aspires to academic excellence and to giving pupils a sense of fun and enjoyment in their learning. It amply fulfils both these aims’.
The ISI report also confirms that Farnborough Hill ‘successfully fulfils one of its main aims, to educate the whole person in a happy, caring community in which each individual is valued.’ Opportunities are provided for the girls’ spiritual, academic, emotional, physical, moral and social development. The emphasis that Farnborough Hill places on the spiritual life of the school and on pastoral care and the personal development of its students was judged by the ISI inspection team to be ‘outstanding’.
The school’s impressive main house, once the home of Empress Eugenie, has had modern purpose built facilities added. The school has a strong tradition of excellence in music, drama, art and sport. Extra-curricular activities are an important feature of the school and they make a major contribution to the personal development of the students.
ISI identified that students ‘are confident, without being over-confident; they are concerned for each other and for their fellow human beings; they become courteous and responsible young people.‘
