Lodge School is set in wonderful grounds in the heart of the exclusive Webb Estate, a protected conservation area free from road traffic and pollution, providing a peaceful and focused place of learning. Situated at three neighbouring sites, or ‘Lodges’, each closely linked with many shared facilities, the priority in each Lodge is to create a warm and secure environment in which young people can grow and develop, confident about their place in the world and their value as individuals. An exceptionally high teacher-pupil ratio ensures pupils receive the individual attention they need to thrive and reach their potential.

Pupils are admitted at any time if there are vacant places. An assessment is made during a day visit at most levels, though an examination is set at 7+ and 11+. West Dene takes boys and girls from the age of 2. An extended day is available at West Dene and Downside from 8.00 am to 6.00 pm if required. Senior girls may stay after the end of the school day by prior arrangement.

An enhanced National Curriculum is offered and the Sixth Form offers a wide range of subjects and subject combinations. Boys and girls are prepared for senior school entrance examinations, although most girls transfer into the Lodge School senior department (Commonweal). Individual needs are met through tailoring the curriculum in a variety of ways ranging from acceleration through the public exam system to additional support for pupils for whom English is an additional language or who require support for dyslexia.
