Outstandingly successful, North London Collegiate is the only school to have been named Sunday Times Independent School of the Year on two occasions, in 1999 and 2006. The school, founded in 1850 by Frances Mary Buss, is situated in the former home of the Duke of Chandos, a magnificent 18th-century house with fine terraces and gardens. The ‘Old House’ now houses the Sixth Form and sits at the heart of the school, while a modern surround has grown within 30 acres of parkland with fabulous facilities including a library, sports centre, indoor swimming pool and music and drawing schools. A purpose built Performing Arts Centre opened in 2007, incorporating a theatre, art galleries and cafe, offering the girls every opportunity to develop within and beyond the curriculum.
North London Collegiate is an energetic, purposeful school. A very high proportion of sixth formers go on to Oxbridge. The IB Diploma is offered, alongside traditional AS and A-level courses, with results reflecting the commitment of the school to scholarship and academic challenge. The school has been described as the most consistently successful academic girls’ school in the country.
ISI inspected the school in February 2008 and concluded that ‘the educational experience provided at the time of the previous inspection was excellent. It is now outstanding’
