Bursaries & Scholarships – Roedean School

Founded in 1885 as one of the first girls’ boarding schools in the country, Roedean provides an outstanding academic education for around 400 day, full and weekly boarding girls from 11 to 18 years.

Roedean’s vision: “looking outward, aiming high” is inspired by our stunning 40-acre setting to the east of Brighton with spectacular views across the Sussex coastline and the English Channel.

As part of an eight million pound investment programme in facilities, teaching and learning, Roedean will be transformed over next 18 months by a significant and sensitive modernisation of five boarding houses. This will include the refurbishment of around 200 bedrooms as well as communal spaces and private study areas. The result will enhance the rich heritage of the buildings and bring warmth and personality to social, study and private spaces.

At Roedean, the girls have a chance to enrich their lives with sports, music, dance, drama, art and a wealth of clubs and societies. At the same time, they balance these opportunities with a firm focus on academic studies gaining places at leading universities.

We are delighted to encourage ability and potential through our generous scholarship programme for girls wishing to join Roedean at Year 7 (11+) and Year 9 (13+). The award of a scholarship at Roedean means that the school has acknowledged a high level of previous achievement and identified potential for further successful development.

Scholarships
  • Academic, Art, Dance, Drama, Music, Sport and All Rounder
  • A Headmistress’ Award may also be given at the discretion of the Headmistress.

Scholarships are usually worth a 10% reduction in fees, although in special circumstances and at the Headmistress’s discretion, this could be increased.

Scholarships are normally valid from September of the year of entry until the end of the Sixth Form. However, scholars’ progress is reviewed annually to ensure a level of sustained effort, commitment and achievement is being maintained.

Scholarships may be ‘topped up’ using means-tested bursaries according to financial need and successful performance in the entrance exams.

Bursaries

Applications should be received by 31 December preceding the September entry. Awards continue for the duration of the girl’ time at Roedean assuming there are no significant chances and are subject to annual review.

Scholarship and Assessment Date: 19 January 2013
