Set on the edge of Abingdon, just twenty minutes from Oxford, St Helen and St Katharine is a vibrant, stimulating and welcoming school that places great emphasis on encouraging girls to believe and trust in themselves. St Helen’s has approximately 620 girls, including a special Junior Department for girls aged 9-11.We have strong links with Abingdon School for boys with several subjects being taught jointly at Upper School (sixth form) level.
Our excellent academic record (we regularly achieve well over 90% grades A and B at A level) is the result of thought provoking, committed teaching that brings subjects alive, encouraging girls to extend themselves, whilst allowing them time and space to grow in confidence. We have an impressive range of extra-curricular activities through which pupils can explore opportunities and develop their own individual talents. Our music and drama departments are exceptional, benefiting from a state-of-the-art Performing Arts Centre, and there is a real passion for creative arts throughout St Helen’s. Our new sports centre with fitness suite and newly developed pitches enables girls not only to enjoy an extensive range of sports, many at a high level, but also ensures that they learn to value a healthy, active lifestyle.
Above all, both inside and outside the classroom, St Helen’s is a school where pupils enjoy learning. As one of our recent leavers puts it “by the time you leave St Helen’s, you are able to speak for yourself and have real self-belief”.
