St Catherine's School Bramley
Type Day-Boarding
Age range 4–18
School head Mrs Alice Phillips
St Catherine’s, Bramley is firmly established as one of the top independent girls’ schools in the country. Within an hour of London and Heathrow and Gatwick airports, St Catherine’s offers the buzz of a busy day school with the vibrancy of a thriving boarding community.
Education plus
In 2009 93% of A Levels awarded were A/B grades with a sizeable group in the top ten nationally in many subjects including English Literature, Geography and Textiles. As a girls’ only school, there are no subjects which are ‘out of bounds’; the uptake amongst pupils for Mathematics, Design & Technology and the Sciences is always high.
Academic success is not achieved at the expense of extra-curricular activities; Art, Drama, Music and Sport thrive in a School where girls participate at whatever level they feel comfortable, be it playing lacrosse nationally or singing in the House Music competition.
By the time girls are in the Sixth Form, they take on real roles of responsibility, for example helping run the School Houses, leading choirs, directing plays, and raising money for charities.
Boarding
Girls are welcome as weekly or full boarders. St Catherine’s proximity to both London and miles of countryside creates exciting opportunities for extra-curricular activities both in the evenings and at weekends. Parents appreciate that boarding at St Catherine’s, Bramley offers the academic excellence of the London day schools without the pressure on places but, most importantly, they value the School’s atmosphere in which their daughters clearly thrive and enjoy their school days.
Founded in 1885, St Catherine’s is celebrating 125 years of excellence in girls’ education. We are opening a brand new sports’ centre in the autumn term of 2010 which will coincide with the start of our anniversary year.
