St George's School Ascot
Age range 11-18
School head Mrs Rachel Owens
Looking after the individual has always been important at St George’s, Ascot. Each girl is allocated a personal tutor who oversees her academic and pastoral well-being, encouraging her to achieve her very best. Classes are small and teachers focus on each individual’s needs, tailoring the curriculum, whether by offering opportunities for extension through the Gifted and Talented programme or by delivering the unique Learning Skills sessions. As a consequence, academic results are strong. The AQA Baccalaureate is offered in addition to A Levels, where typically one third of the candidates achieve at least 3 As.
St George’s maintains a balance between its boarding and day community. The school is very cohesive because all the girls benefit from the extended day. Twenty five different clubs and activities occur when lessons finish, ranging from Digital Imaging to Football to Tante Marie, followed by a period of prep. Day girls can stay for supper and join the boarders for an exciting choice of evening activities. Every girl is a member of a House and the older girls work with the younger ones in a variety of House competitions. Extracurricular life is very rich at the school.
Boarding is seen as the jewel in the crown at St George’s. All boarders enjoy a range of activities on the four weekends of each term that are compulsory. Other weekends are flexible and many parents choose St George’s as a boarding school because it allows them plenty of access and involvement with their daughters as they grow up.
