St George’s School for Girls was founded in 1888 by a group of women who had been denied access to university education.
Today the ethos of our founders remains – we put girls first by design to give each one the confidence and competence to fulfil her potential. St George’s provides a caring, stimulating and challenging environment in which girls learn and develop. Emphasis is placed on personal achievement, responsibility, diversity and on partnerships. Girls, staff and parents work cooperatively throughout the school. In partnership, we aim to ensure the education of St George’s girls meets the needs of the outside world as well as the individual.
The International Exchange Programme is outstanding; students travel to join in life and school in many different countries including North and South America, Australia, Europe, China and South Africa.
Early Years and Nursery take girls and boys from the ages of two to four, full or part time. Thereafter small classes, high quality teaching and personal attention combine to produce a first-class education. Academic excellence is valued and our examination results are outstanding with over 98% of our girls going onto university or college.
The beautiful city centre campus, encompasses top class facilities for sport; music; art; drama; dance; food technology; languages; science; design and technology and an enterprise centre. Boarding is popular and Houldsworth House provides a comfortable home from home within the school.
We welcome enquiries and assessments are held to suit parental needs.
